Find The Best Car Insurance Estimate
If you drive a car you are financially responsible for any damage you cause during an accident. Without insurance, you can be fined, lose your license, or have your car impounded. If you want to save money on insurance, have several companies work up a car insurance estimate for you before you buy any auto insurance.
There are several ways to ask companies to work up that quote. On way that works but is not recommended is by walking into an agent’s office and asking for a quote. You are put on the spot to make a decision as soon as you are given the quote. More than likely you do not have any other quotes to compare with the current quote so you will likely pay more for insurance than if you had requested the estimate in other ways.
A somewhat better way is to make several phone calls requesting car insurance estimates. More than likely the agent will ask to call you back with the final estimate. This can work in your advantage, because it allows you to call other agents to ask for more quotes while the first one is working on paperwork. The idea here is to get three or four quotes being worked up at the same time. When an agent calls back with their estimate, tell them you are waiting on other quotes and plan to buy the insurance with the best price. Some agents may automatically drop their price when they hear this, but do not purchase insurance until you have all the quotes.
Probably the best way to buy insurance is by using an automated quote request online. The automated system sends your information to three or four companies that know they must be competitive in price to get your business. They will then send you a quote by e-mail or call you with the quote. Even if you get a phone call, ask for the agent to e-mail the quote so that you can print out a paper record to compare side by side with all the other quotes.
After getting all the quotes, choose the company with the best price and buy the insurance.
You will save money if you pay the cost of the policy upfront. Making monthly payments usually adds a service charge to your policy which adds five to ten dollars each month.
If you drive safely and obey the laws of the road, your insurance costs may actually decline as time passes. After three years, all moving violations and accidents disappear, so you become a better risk and pay less.
